Ear Asphyxia : solo saxophone recorded in Thailand. The idea behind these improvisations is the notion of very pure acoustic sound nibbled away by a sort of electronic disease. The ear becomes asphyxiated by environmental pollution.

Recorded and mixed in March and April 2025 in Thailand at « Big Buddha Park » (Jomtien beach) with a « Zoom H4nPro » and at « Thai Music Maker » TMM Studio (Bangkok) except for « Heartbreak Computer » recorded in Paris in January 2025. All tracks are mixed with Moogerfooger (Ring Modulator, Flter, Analog Delay, etc… plus a Harmonizer). Some saturations come from these pedals and some external noises are noticeable in the takes recorded outdoors.

The music is improvised by Etienne Brunet except for « Somebody Special » and « Nowhere Street » composed by Steve Lacy and « Waiting for love at the station » inspired by the composition of Num Muang Phai and the train noises come from the « BBC Sound Effects ». The title « First Time I Dug a Bird in Flight » is borrowed from a notebook by Ted Joans exhibited at « Paris Noir » Centre Pompidou.

EB plays a « Yanagisawa » curved soprano saxophone (with « Selmer » « Concept » mouthpiece and « Légère » synthetic fiber reed plus Kaen, a traditional Southeast Asian instrument made in Thailand. « Heartbreak Computer » played with an EMEO electronic saxophone.

Thanks to Jason Weiss who initiated this project and encouraged me. Thanks to my son Léo who also encouraged me to continue.
